Peterhead converter building taking shape

Significant progress is being made at the Peterhead Converter Station. The first converter building's steel frame is now complete, with the second due to follow shortly. The first alternating current hall has been erected and work on the second began in early August. Concrete works for both transformer buildings have also been completed, while cladding continues to progress across the site.

Earlier this year, HDD works were completed to install the ducts for the new 400kV cable beneath the U66 road to eventually connect the converter station to the existing Peterhead Substation nearby. The use of HDD technology here meant that road closures could be avoided.

Next steps

Over the coming months, construction activities at the converter station site will focus on completing the remaining steelwork and cladding, forming floor slabs within the main buildings and preparing for the first mechanical and electrical installations. At the landfall site, upcoming works include the installation of ducts, completion of the second borehole and further preparation for future cable installation activities.
