EGL2 showcases apprenticeship opportunities at Hull & East Riding Apprenticeship Fair
On Wednesday 19 November, the Eastern Green Link 2 (EGL2) project team joined our contractors BAM and Balfour Beatty, at the Hull & East Riding Apprenticeship Fair in Beverley, to talk about the early careers opportunities National Grid has available*.
The event, held at Bishop Burton College, brought together more than 50 exhibitors and attracted around 1,500 visitors. Designed to connect people of all ages with employers and apprenticeship providers, the fair highlighted a wide range of local and national career opportunities.
EGL2 used the platform to engage with young people and their families, showcasing the vital role the project plays in supporting the UK’s clean energy transition and strengthening energy security.
Neil Lyons, Project Director for EGL2 said:
Events like the Hull & East Riding Apprenticeship Fair are a fantastic opportunity to inspire the next generation.
EGL2 is not just about delivering critical infrastructure for clean energy and energy security, it’s about creating pathways for people to build rewarding careers in the growing energy sector. We’re proud to showcase the opportunities our project brings to local communities.
Simon Davis, Social Sustainability Manager at BAM, added:
The East Riding Apprentice Expo was a fantastic opportunity for BAM to engage directly with students from communities near the EGL2 project and highlight the wide-ranging early careers support and training we offer. By attending alongside other key EGL2 contractors and National Grid, we collectively helped to give a valuable insight into engineering and construction, as well as the broader career opportunities available in the energy sector.
Alison Critchley, Communications and Stakeholder Engagement Manager at Balfour Beatty, said:
Balfour Beatty was delighted to attend the Hull and East Riding Apprenticeship Expo on 19 November. The event presented a great opportunity to showcase the programme that Balfour Beatty offers and talk to potential apprentices about their field of interest and career paths.
Throughout the day, the EGL2 team enjoyed engaging with visitors, sharing details about our engineering and business apprenticeship programmes, and answering questions about careers in the energy sector. It was inspiring to see the enthusiasm as people discovered new opportunities with projects like EGL2.
We look forward to supporting more events like this in the months and years ahead. If you manage or know of community events that could benefit from our involvement, please get in touch with the EGL2 team at [email protected] – we’d love to hear from you.
