Project core documents

On 12 February 2025, the Secretary of State for Energy Security and Net Zero confirmed (without modifications) National Grid Electricity Transmission plc (“National Grid”)'s National Grid Electricity Transmission plc (Scotland to England Green Link 2) Compulsory Purchase Order 2023 (“CPO”) to enable it to compulsorily acquire the land and rights necessary to construct and operate the English onshore elements of the Scotland to England Green Link – SEGL2 (“the Project”) which is now known as Eastern Green Link 2 - EGL2. These onshore elements comprise of underground cables, a convertor station and other associated development.

The confirmed CPO and CPO Plans have been published and are available to view in the 'Documents' section of this page below, along with the CPO Notice. Please note that Bridlington Central Library will be closed from Saturday 29 March for major refurbishment, due to be complete in Summer 2025. Physical copies of the documents can be viewed at other locations displayed in the CPO Notice.

The confirmation of the CPO followed a series of negotiations where National Grid tired to meet voluntary agreements to ensure that the Project can be delivered to meet electricity demand, and an inquiry conducted by an Inspector.

Further detail on the compulsory purchase process can be found in the Department for Levelling Up, Housing, and Communities Guidance on Compulsory Purchase Process and the Crichel Down Rules (July 2019), which is available to view and download for free online at GOV.UK.

If you would like more information about the CPO, please contact National Grid's appointed land agents, Dalcour Maclaren via email at [email protected].

On 3 April 2025, National Grid Electricity Transmission plc (“NGET”) executed a general vesting declaration (“GVD”) in order to vest the land rights that it was authorised to compulsorily acquire by the Secretary of State for Energy Security and Net Zero pursuant to The National Grid Electricity Transmission plc (Scotland to England Green Link 2) Compulsory Purchase Order 2023. NGET has served the notices required on the relevant parties on 3 April 2025 and the land rights will vest in NGET on the vesting date.
