EGL2 moves to 7-day-a-week working

The Eastern Green Link 2 (EGL2) project has today confirmed a temporary change to working hours at the project’s converter station site near Boddam, in Peterhead, to allow for necessary activities that require extended working hours to take place. Supporting the timely delivery of the nationally significant energy infrastructure project.
From Saturday 19 July, the project will adopt a 7-day working week, with extended weekend hours agreed by exception with Aberdeenshire Council. New site hours will run from 7am to 5pm on Saturdays and 8am to 5pm on Sundays, in addition to the existing 7am-7pm weekday schedule.
The change supports key time-critical construction activities, including continuous concrete pours for foundation and slipform works, piling, and upcoming horizontal directional drilling operations. These tasks require uninterrupted workflows to ensure structural integrity, safety, and project efficiency.
Noise levels are expected to remain within acceptable limits, with most impacts limited to vehicle movements and material deliveries. The extended schedule is anticipated to continue until March 2026, although not all activities will take place over this entire period.
Gillian Doig, Community Liaison Manager for SSEN Transmission, said:
“Extending our working hours is a necessary step to keep EGL2 on track. We remain committed to minimising disruption to the local community and will continue to work closely with Aberdeenshire Council and residents to manage noise and safety throughout the extended schedule.”
A short period of 24-hour working will also be required later in the year during slipform operations. Advance notice will be provided to the local community.
